Venezuelan oil is bitter crude.
Thick and rife with sulfur.
It takes a different kind of refinery to turn it into usable fuel.
We have refineries in our fuel production matrix that deal specifically with that type of crude.
If we lose that import, those refineries can't make fuel even if the sweet crude supply went up.
That, is the number one problem.
Add to that the fact that the Chinese can import as much as we do, the nut case running Venezuela does not need us as a customer. He is not a good business man and he might cut us off to make a point and not care that his people suffer.
He is perfectly willing to let them sacrifice for what he thinks is the greater good.
Sounds like Hillary, doesn't he?
Tell your brother Jim I said hello. What are the problems dealing with oil in venezuela?
