1 The main concerns are the acrylic not sticking to the oil.
2 The differing dry times.
3 If acrylic is applied over wet oil it may cause a crackle effect
4 You can't mix the colors using the two mediums.
thats what i can come up with off the top of my head. Can both acrylic and oil paint be used in the sam painting? what would be the main problems?
Yes they can be, it's called ';mixed mediums';, and it is quite often done.
The differences in the make up of both mediums would not allow you to mix them. But you can use the both of them on the same canvas.
Acrylic paints are a polymer plastic water soluble, but insoluble when dried.
Oil paintings are an oil based pigment ( the best oil would be linseed oil) and they do not dry. Oils oxidize.
When one or the other is dry or oxidized you can paint over them with the other. But to paint wet on wet would be nearly impossible unless you actually are looking for the equivalent of mud on your canvas, or just want to create a mess.
One of the mediums has to be dry or oxidized in order to paint over it with the other medium. Can both acrylic and oil paint be used in the sam painting? what would be the main problems?
the only way this would work is if you painted with the acrlic first...let it dry and then used it oil on the parts u needed to
i m sorry, but i had no other way to communicate to u
my response to ur answer to my question-%26gt;
ur hair was made curly, by god, becoz u could make it straight,! thats the meaning of ur life respect to ur hair! got it?
u can make it straight going to parlour thats why it is curly, suppose u couldn't make it straight,,then it wouldn't have been curly!
that my point,,thats the meaning of life (if u generalise),,
thx for answering my question!
^_^
Acrylic are water soluble, which means they may not stick to the oil painted surface. You could try it, because you might like the effect, but make sure it's not something that is important to you.
You can paint oil over acrylic which is done often, but not paint acrylic over oil because the paint wont stick.
it is often used with the arcylic used as an underpaint
the gesso on most commerical available boards and canvas is acrylic
if you put acrylic on oil paint it will peel off
