I have a puppy who keeps itching, and i heard i could use used car oil to solve any skin problems.is this true

is it true that i can use used car oil to help her or are there any kind of HOME REMEDIES that i could try first before spending a fortune at the vetI have a puppy who keeps itching, and i heard i could use used car oil to solve any skin problems.is this true
Car oil is dangerous to dogs and i wouldnt really go that route, there is a good website that has many different home remedies that are cheap and really work on dog itchies! There are even testimonials to the remedies and some before and after pics of some of the dogs treated w/ the home remedies. I myself used Ted's remedy #1 for my dog and it worked like a charm!! What I use regularly now to keep the itchies away is spraying my dog daily with APPLE CIDER VINEGAR from the health food store, i fill up a spray bottle with it UNDILUTED and spray her daily, everywhere. she smells like a salad until she dries. It also makes her fur very silky and soft. Please check it out before you try old wives tails!! the website is listed below. Good Luck!I have a puppy who keeps itching, and i heard i could use used car oil to solve any skin problems.is this true
NOO!! do not us Car oil ...if she has fleas give her a bath and you HAVE to soak her in the soapy water for at least 10 min. to kill the bugs it suffocates them but it takes 10-15 mins. to do that ...google natural flea control for cats ...other wise i suggest frontline or a topical type for cats....if it is not bugs then try fining a cat shampoo at wal-mart or pet shops that has oatmeal in it..oatmeal will soothe the skin...and if you soak the cat in any cat shampoo for 10 min will kill them so the oatmeal would be best...but if you have nothing but dish soap it is safe to use....
Good grief, don't put motor oil on your puppy! Toxic! You can't use a remedy until you know the cause of the problem. Is it fleas? Mites? Allergic reaction? Skin infection? The treatments for these conditions are different. If you don't see the cause for the itching, please take the pup to a vet. I know it can be expensive, but if you accept the responsibility of having a pet, vet care is part of that package.
hey mate i dont know about car oil try washing your dog with soap or you can pick up some itching powder from a shop for around $10
DONT USE OIL!! Try getting a flea dip and a good oatmeal shampoo. Make sure to gently wash the dog and dont scratch the skin. The oatmeal shampoo will soothe the skin, especially if the dog had fleas at some point.
No. That is a tale. To wash your dog with itchy skin use oatmeal dog shampoo or something with alove in the ingrident.

You might want to consider changing the diet to something else. Perferrably a diet that has no corn or by products in the ingriedents.

You can always call and talk to a vet. Simply call the vet office, request for a vet to call you back and discuss this with them. They will advise you of home remedies. This is free. My vet does this, as well as most vet office. They're not there to take your money but to help you along the way with having a pet.

Good Luck.
no no no no no!! pls dont do this! u will burn ur dog! dogs skin is 6 times thinner that ours and is very sensative. u may be bathing your dog too often. depending on your dog, u should only bathe it once every 4 weeks. also, when u r bathing it, r u using good quality dog shampoo? dont use human shampoo, ever. i would reccomend taking ur dog to the vet before trying any home remedies because ur dog may be allergic to something and u may make it worse. if u get allergy treatments done, then look into home remedies from a reliebale source. not motor oil!! even ask ur vet if he/she knows of any remedies u can use that wont cost a fortune. ur vet will be more than happy to help out!! good luck!! =)
try a shampoo with a flie soap, wash 2 or 3 times then rinse very good(drys skin) Do No get in the Eyes.
Please, don't put car oil (used or otherwise) on you pet!

Try:

Calling you vet.

Using a soothing shampoo.

Or, a anti-itching cream for canines.

Oh, and you should also make sure your puppy doesn't have any food allergies.
try looking for a shampoo with oatmeal in it. it's suppose to be moisterizing.
Try a cortisone spray that is available OTC for people. I really think that you should take her to the vet though. Only then will you know what the allergy is and then you and the vet can have the knowledge to treat it properly. Please DO NOT bathe the dog in motor oil! If you can't properly take care of the dog by taking it to a vet, please consider finding a new home for her.
Don't use used car oil or you will have a dog you will never get clean! That's rediculous!

Go to Wal Mart and buy some fish oil tablets. They don't cost much. Give him one a day and if your dog doesn't want to eat it, put it in a little piece of cheese and act like it's a treat. You could also cut open the capsule and put it on your dog's food.

This is a great coat conditioner. You should also use a good shampoo and conditioner. You didn't mention the breed of your dog but some are sensitive to harsh shampoos and need only baby shampoo. If you use human grade shampoo it will dry out a dog's skin and coat so it is not good for them.

The next thing to consider would be a good quality dog food. Purina makes a pretty good low grade dog food. There are much better ones like Nutro Natural Choice but whatever you do, don't ever feed your dog the Ole Roy dog food. There is nothing worse for him. It is hard to digest and makes your dog poop all the time.

You can also give your dog a 25 mg. tablet of Benadryl. The same kind people take. If he is under 10 pounds, give him half a tablet. It may make him sleepy at first but it will keep him from itching.

Also if your dog is just a puppy and less than a year old, don't use any shampoo other than a good puppy shampoo and conditioner. Also, he will need only puppy food.
No! Anything that's put on a dog's skin will be ingested by the dog, especially if the dog is a puppy. Go to the vet ASAP; you needn't ';spend a fortune';, but you do need reliable medical advice to care for your pup.

It would be tragic if something you did, hoping to help, harmed your puppy. Your vet can help; our ';home remedies'; might hurt - both of you.
Try spraying the dog with a anti itching spray specially for dogs. You can find this at any grooming shop.
good lord don't use motor oil go to petsmart or someplace like that or even call a vet and ask them what to use,,,,,,,,
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

NEVER USE MOTOR OIL.

gIVE IT A BATH IN A OATMEAL SHAMPOO

CHANGE THE FOOD TO A FOOD WITH NO CORN OR BEET PULP OR SOY. FIRST INGREDIANTS MEAT NOT BYPRODUCTS OR GRAIN OF ANY KIND

CHECK FOR FLEAS AND PUT FRONTLINE ON IT.
PLEASE!!!!!!!!

NEVER USE ANYTHING ON YOUR PET THAT IS NOT SPECIFICALLY FOR THEM!!!!!!!!

If you can't afford a vet go to a pet store and ask advice, (it's free) to ask questions, and cheep to get the rite stuff to care for your puppy. figuring out what to use may be as simple as figuring out if the problem is related to dry skin, flees or some other problem. It doesn't always take a vet to get to the bottom of thees types of issues, however don't procrastinate your puppy is suffering. If you can't figure out what the problem is in a short period of time SPEND THE MONEY ON A VET!
Car oil is really not the method to use. Full of cancer causing ingredients and is not made for digestion or absorption safely through the body.

Okay. At the grocery store they sell Safflower Oil. Put a tablespoon of that in your dogs food with every meal. Hopefully, at least being fed two meals a day. Also, get a quality holistic dog food. Your dogs skin will improve greatly and you won't have to spend much time at the vets. To find a holistic, quality food, look in the yellow pages under pet foods, supplies. Those stores that have holistic foods will advertise as such. You can get quite an education when visiting one of these stores.

You can give your dog benadryl, but first call your vet and see about the appropriate dosage for your dogs weight and the type of benadryl your vet would recommend.

I would strongly suggest you see your vet, but stay away from any cortisone shots, or non-steriod and steriod drugs. They only weaken the dogs immune system.

A good diet for your dog is a great way to improve overall health.
Dry skin or fleas? Dandruff shampoo or flea treatment...............if that doesn't work take him to the vet.
NO! Whoever told you to put used motor oil on your dog is an idiot. I have heard of some people do it to try to get rid of mange, but got no results and ended up with very sick dogs. What makes you think the dog isn't going to lick it? jeeeeeeeesh.

If your dog has mange (and the only way to know for sure is take it to a vet for a skin scraping), it will need MEDICATION otherwise it could just continue to get worse!
NO! Take the puppy to the vet.
Please DO NOT use motor oil on your dog. I would go to any pet store and look at their selection of products for the itching. Sry, but I don't know any home remedies for this.
I agree with some of the other suggetions above about either Going to the vet, or washing it in some Anti-Itch Shampoo.

Another I myself like to do, is to put a little bit of corn oil( found in your local grocery store, or Wal-Mart) across their food. Corn Oil, Not Car Oil!

It seems to really help the itchyness of their skin and has also helped in previous dogs who have had bad dry skin and dander.

I've only heard good things about using Corn Oil. Just don't use it in excess and start off gradually so you don't tear it's stomach up.
Please dont use oil on your puppy, It wont work for about $15

a month you can get a flea soultion from your local vet over the counter that also worms your animal as well as keeping control of the fleas the one i use is called revolution
You heard incorrectly, dude. Car oil is specially formulated for metal engines. Unless your puppy is fabriacted from metal, it's not a good idea to put any on your poor pup's delicate skin. Would YOU rub car oil on your face or scalp- or other parts?

You need to find out what is making pup itchy. Once you find the cause you can solve the problem.

Do you have a veterinary degree? If you do, diagnose the problem.

If you don't- well, paying a professional to do basic health care on your vet is called ';responsible pet ownership.';

Actually, when I call, sometimes the vet techs give me good advice and save me a trip.

Make the call.
If the dog has fleas, you can treat at home. but go to the store and buy something. Don't use old motor oil. You can buy a dip fairly cheap. Treat the fleas in your home and in your yard also, if you don't you will never solve the problem.

Next it could be a food allergy-that is becoming common. Most dog food on the market is junk.
No never use oil on a puppy unless u want to kill it. just give it a flee bath and he/she will be better in no time
Are you serious?? Would you REALLY put motor oil on your DOG??????? Would YOU soak in it because your were itchy??

NO home remedies, go to the vet. That is the COST of pet ownership.
A few cheap things to try:

1) anti ich shampoo

2) anti ich spray
