Is their a problem with my oil fill cap?

740 turbo wag. 2.3L, oil is comming out my oil fill cap, someone told me that I dont need a new cap, that somthing else was causing the back pressure, can anyone help!!Is their a problem with my oil fill cap?
it is a good indication the pistons have ';blow by';.

you probably need a motor job.Is their a problem with my oil fill cap?
ck if PCV is clear or replace it.

also, ck oil level too.
More than likely your positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) system is clogged. Volvos use a device called a flame trap as part of the PCV system. This is a coil of a very thin metal strip and is usually the item in the system that clogs first. This has the effect of pressurizing the crankcase and blowing oil out through gaskets and, in your case, the oil cap. The flame trap is installed in one of the hoses that recirculates gases throughout the PCV system. I can't pinpoint the location for you but a decent repair manual can.
it could just be the oil filler cap seal is in need of replacement. But volvo's have a thing called a flame trap in the breather system which they recommend to be removed as it was causing problems, it should of been done at service but worth a check. may also be just blocked breather system!
I would start with the seal on the oil cap, very common failure and the part is under $5 at the dealer.

Everyone is saying that you car has a flame trap that could be clogged, that is NOT correct, your car since it is Turbo does have a flame trap, only non turbo models have the flame trap, you do have a PCV system but they do not tend to clog since there is no flame trap to clog.

Good luck
In a lot of cases the rubber gasket on the oil cap is gets hard and brittle thus causing oil leaks out the oil cap. Replace the gasket if its in this condition and then see if that fixes the problem. Also make sure the oil level isn't over full which can force oil out oil seals. Another critical part is the flame trap, flame trap housing, and vacuum hoses and vacuum port can be clogged causing excessive back pressure. Repair all mentioned here because it a lot of mechanics overlook these things and it's cheap and easy replace. Plz. let me know if problem still exist and perhaps we can go to the next level...Good luck!
