The tapping valves is a very good sign of low oil pressure. There's a chance that a new oil pump would fix it, but if not, it may need new crank bearings. This is considered a major overhaul, but the parts to do the repair are very cheap. The check engine light, however, is a bit confusing. The computer doesn't know that you don't have any oil pressure, so it's a different issue there.
get the oil pump checked out immediately.
