I took my boat out for the first time today. Its a 1998 Caravelle with 3.0L HO volvo penta (GS).The oil pressure guage was working perfect, reading about 45lbs while at 4,000 rpm. All of the sudden the guage started to jumping around from zero to about twenty pounds and was reading only a little above zero at idle. I checked the oil and it was spot on and looked in the top of oil cap, it was wet with oil in there so it was pumping there was no burnt smell to the oil. It did feel a little thin though. Is it possibly my guage or the sending unit? How can I test them to tell?Oil Pressure Guage Problems?!?
If the gauge went way below zero that would be my first check, then the sender. To be sure you may also want to check the pressure with a mechanical gauge.Oil Pressure Guage Problems?!?
The only way to tell if the gauge or sending unit is bad is to use a mechanical gauge that is known to be good and test it that way.
maybe it will work if you spell it correctly
