Is it correct in saying that America's addiction to foreign oil is a problem? ?

It's an addiction that threatens our economy, our environment and our national security. It touches every part of our daily lives and ties our hands as a nation and a people.

Be sure to Use the concept of comparative advantage and specialization in your answer. Is it correct in saying that America's addiction to foreign oil is a problem? ?
I think our addiction to oil is only 1 piece of the problem. Oil, unlike most commodities, is unregulated. The only reason oil prices went up was because of oil speculators, and it had no real foundation or basis. We need a better system of checks and balances. Gas and oil companies use any excuse possible to gouge the American population.

Hurricane Ike is a great example. Gas prices jumped, but oil prices were down and declining. Gas stations immediately started raising prices, and they haven't gone down even though the oil industry in Houston and the Gulf of Mexico was untouched by Ike.

At some point we just need to tell them to get legitimate.

We need better mass transportation to sustain our population and offere a real alternative to driving. We also need to start repopulating cities instead of suburbs. We have to give up our McMansions. We really do not have any great public transportiona - nothing like what is available in Europe. Is it correct in saying that America's addiction to foreign oil is a problem? ?
Dude, you could at least _try_ to make it sound like something other than a homework assignment.

Edit: No, addiction to foreign oil is not a problem. If america were to produce all its own oil, it would end up requiring more resources to produce less oil, discarding the benefit of comparative advantage. In addition, the time spent producing oil could have been better spent doing things we're more efficient at (specialization) and exporting it those goods/services to oil producing countries. By importing oil from foreign countries and exporting to them what they need from us, we can maximize global economic output, and therefore, consumption and wealth.

Sounds great, doesn't it? :p

Just hope you don't go up against someone like me when you're looking for a job...

Edit2: Specialization and comparative advantage are economic terms... you know, economy? That thing that lets you buy stuff at relatively affordable prices that you have absolutely no idea how to build/make yourself? Yeah, that.
Yes along with other countries. How can oilchololics be cured? Bring on electric cars!
No, whenever we have a republican in the white house they kiss up to hte greedier ones of the top 5% to do them favors. The war is a hoax to ruin the 95% of Americans who can't pad the pockets of Bush %26amp; gang. The poor are already struggling. The middle upper who had it all are now losing jobs %26amp; businesses, bank accounts, health insurance, etc...I live in Maryland %26amp; one of our riches counties is Prince Georges %26amp; the are in huge debt because so many people stopped paying property taxes. So some people who called the poor lazy are not themselves filing for unemployment insurance. Going without health insurance %26amp; using what money they have left hoping for a brighter day. It is as if they have turned into the people they put down the most. Meanwhile they have given their power away to some greedy people who will use them to bomb, rebuild countries for Haliburton Bin laden construction because they are going to make sure that their buddies are good for as long as it is possible to borrow money then let the bottom fall out on that 95%.
It is fact but is there an viable alternative.

Oil is not controlled by US. US can only do bargaining.
yes, it is a big problem.
haha comparative advantage and specialisation?? i dont even know what that means!!

what exactly are you studying socio-political economic psychologcal actarial science?

it does not tie your hands as a nation. It ';forces'; you to arm yourself and go on a pillaging mission
Of course it's a problem, I mean in so many ways we need oil but if we would just put a little more funding into alternative fuel sources...our earth has so much power that doesn't have to be harmful...We do need to fix our foreign oil crisis as well because it's not just a little problem it isn't being swept under the rug like the others and those who deny it are not just blind they are idiots...anyone ever thought of the use of magnetic's...just curious...well aside from those using it for like the bullet train...but as i see it...to me from my point of view...doesn't that seem like it'd be healthier for the environment and use less fuel? I've been very interested in the use of magnets and I would appreciate no one commenting about the little magnets you stick on your refrigerator
