I'm trying to make a light baby massage oil using Chamomile %26amp; Lavender essential oils as I love the combo in other premade things i've tried. However my problem is the chamomile oil (I use Roman) seems very strong - even when I use only one drop in my blends it completely overpowers everything and smells so awful. It smells rancid rather than soothing. I tried diluting it into a carrier oil and then using that but the smell is as bad.
The bottle is less than a year old so should not be off. I am fairly experienced with making blends but this has thrown me.
Any ideas?
Many Thanks xxProblems with a Chamomile oil blend?
what proportion of oils are you using? If you have an ounce of carrier and you want a 1 percent solution(for a baby) that is 6 drops of essential oil so I would put 5 drops of Lavender and 1 drop of RC. I find it unusual for the smell to be so awful. You might want to do 4 drops lavender 1 drop RC and 1 drop of a citrus oil. If kept cool and out of sunlight and not premixed, essential oils should keep for 3 or more years. Is the carrier oil rancid? RC is very very expensive, do u trust your supplier that it is unadulterated? Did you do a blot paper test on the RC to see if it is pure?Problems with a Chamomile oil blend?
Maybe you could try German Chamomile instead?
I love the smell of chamomile flowers, but personally, I haven't had the best of luck with chamomile essential oil. I know the aroma you're talking about.. I tried to hard last summer to work with it, but eventually gave up.
You could try first diluting it before you add it to your blends.. use a small bottle and make a 50%, or 20%, or even a 10% dilution. Use that dilution in your blends. I do that with lotus, because I love the aroma, but after using up a whole bottle once, and then filling the empty bottle with a carrier, I realized it smelled even better!
