I have a boat with an envirude motor. When I checked the oil it had turned white. What could be the problem?

The last time we went out the boat acted like it wanted to cut off when we tried to go fast. We had to go very slow back to shore. We checked the oil and it was white. If you're talking about the gearcase oil this is a common problem caused by water leaking past the seals. The gearcase needs to be re-sealed. This can cause a lack of lubrication in the gearcase + cause it to seize. It's possible for it to sporadically do this as water does provide some lubrication + will often keep the unit running at lower speeds.


If this is the case you'll need to have the gearcase torn down and inspected for damage as well as re-sealed


If you're talking about the oil in the oil injection system (If your model is so equipped) then you need to have the unit inspected by a qualified service tech + he can tell you the cause as well as what damage may have been done to the powerhead.


Either way I'm afraid You should take the unit in for service ASAP. Do not run it again ';as is';.

Water in the oil will make it white. You need to take it in for repair. Water in the oil is not a good sign.
it's water!!! Bad seals...get service right away...assuming it is a 2 stroke and you are talking gear oil. You can seize your gearbox.
well christian is half right ';file'; is all wrong, brad is correct, aside from all that i would bring you engine in get a 100 hr service, they will change your impeller, oil and pressure test your lower unit, also change the plugs, filters and lube everything up this fixes the majority of problems, you could do it yourself just get a pressure tester.good luck
Well what oil are you talking about. From my first hand experience, if it wont go full speed, replace ALL of your fuel lines and couplings, most importantly your couplings...........as for the oil, if you are talking about the lower unit oil then you have some seals bad, most likely the one behind the prop, remove the prop and you will probably find some fishing line. or the other problem could be your fill and drain plug gaskets.

Short and sweet, ';Head Gasket'; needs to be replaced. Or, you have a bad manifold. But, if you don't use the boat or start the engine regularly, it is common to have some moisture in the oil, not milky white. Do a pressure test and then fix the problem. Don't run the boat like this, you will blow the engine.
