Heat/Oil Gauge Problems?

I have an offroad rig, 1988 Ford Bronco, that recently has been givin me some hell. When traveling during the day, it'll shut off after about 20 miles, refuses to start-up until the motor has cooled (30mins or so) then can travel another 20 miles, and repeat the process, however, when its cooler (below 80 degrees) or at night, itll travel like a champ (drove it all night on a road trip recently, not a problem in the world) has backfired afew times, particular before shutting off. Only other lead I have to the cause is the oil gauge, it flies to ';L'; just moments before she kicks off. During night travel its on the the ';R'; in the words 'Normal'; on the Gauge. Had an oil changed, and changed most of the gaskets, and oil filter. didnt help. Anyone know what it could be? (im a mechanic, myself, and my co-workers are stumped besides Fried Piston Rings)Heat/Oil Gauge Problems?
try changing the temp gauge or try to flush your radiatorHeat/Oil Gauge Problems?
you have an ignition modual, silver or black box up on the back of the fender well, bet if you take it off and look under it, it's got a melted look, fords are notorious for it, I had to throw a bag of ice on mine to make it to the next town, (desert)
yep fried rings could be the case

but then again fuel pumps act that way,run good cold heats up and quits. but if your fuel pump is crapping out at warmer temps it could be causing a short and thats why your getting that low oil pressure signal since its electrical, are the rest of the electrical circuits acting up right before it dies???
